삼위일체 하나님을 사랑합니다 (Loving the Triune God)-영어/한글
As I mentioned in my recent post, the spiritual world is a world of higher dimension that cannot be fully understood or explained by human beings, who live in a 4 dimensional time-space. One of the spiritual realities that is impossible to fully explain is the Trinity - one Godhead in three persons. It’s beyond human understanding. So Muslims accuse Christians of believing in three Gods. Jehovah’s Witnesses, on the other hand, consider Jesus a created being to make their Jehovah God a mono-god.
The Church Fathers struggled with this issue and formalized the doctrine of the Trinity at the First Council of Nicea in 325 AD. The doctrine was incapable of fully explaining the Trinity, however, because of the inadequacy of human language. As a result, it defined what was NOT the Trinity. If any definition went beyond this, it was considered heresy.
Obviously people cannot have an intimate relationship with an abstract concept. When we pray, I am sure most of us direct our prayers to a certain image of God we have shaped in our minds. Likewise, we cannot fall in love with the Triune God unless we have some kind of mental picture of Him.
Let me share my mental picture of our Triune God.
I start with three close friends, one of them recognized by all as the leader. They are always together; wherever one goes, the others are also there. They love and respect each other. They are eager to honor one another. When they have a task, they share wisdom but divide the work. When one cracks a joke, the other two laugh a belly laugh because they are so familiar with how each other’s minds work.
I am not presenting a theological idea but my own personal image of the Triune God that helps me to have a close relationship with Him. I hope no one takes offense. ^^;

영적인 세계는 자연세계보다 차원이 높은 세계이기 때문에, 4차원의 세계에 사는 인간으로서는 이해할 수도 없고 언어로 완전히 표현할 수도 없습니다. 이처럼 표현 안 되는 영적 실체 중의 하나가 삼위일체 하나님입니다.
세 인격체가 한 분을 이룬다는 것은 인간의 이지로 이해될 수 없습니다. 그렇기 때문에 무슬림들은 기독교인들이 세 명의 신을 믿는다고 비웃고, 여호와 증인들은 자신의 하나님을 한 분으로 만들기 위하여 예수님의 신성을 부인합니다.
초대 교부들은 삼위일체 문제를 놓고 고민하다가, 주후325년 니케아회의에서 삼위일체 하나님에 관한 최종적인 정의를 내렸습니다. 그러나 삼위일체 하나님은 우리의 이해와 언어를 초월하기 때문에 이 정의는 삼위일체 하나님을 설명했다기보다, 삼위일체 하나님이 ‘아닌 것’을 정의했다고 보는 것이 맞습니다. 이 정의의 경계선을 벗어나면 이단으로 규정한 것입니다.
그러나 인간은 추상적인 개념을 사랑할 수 없습니다. 머릿속에 구체화된 그림을 그릴 때 사랑할 수 있습니다. 예를 들면 여러분들이 기도할 때에 나름대로의 하나님의 그림을 머리에 그리며 기도하지 않습니까?
삼위일체 하나님을 사랑하려면 머리에 그림을 그릴 수 있어야 합니다. 삼위일체 하나님에 관한 제 그림은 이렇습니다.
세 명의 단짝 친구입니다. 항상 붙어 다니고, 한 분이 있는 곳에는 반드시 다른 두 분도 있습니다. 이들은 생각이 같고, 꿈이 같습니다. 한 분이 리더이지만, 서로 사랑하고 존경하며, 서로를 높여주려고 애를 씁니다. 해야 할 일이 있으면 같이 지혜를 모으되, 일은 분담해서 합니다. 기쁨을 같이 하고, 슬픔을 같이 하고, 한 분이 농담을 하면 두 분은 상대방의 마음을 너무나도 잘 읽기 때문에 박장대소를 합니다.
삼위일체가 이런 존재라는 것이 아닙니다. 저는 이런 그림을 머리에 그리며 삼위일체 하나님을 사랑하고, 동행하며 살아가고 있다는 뜻입니다. ^^;
