하나님 음성 듣기 (Hearing God’s Voice)-영어/한글
My ministry principle has been simple: Listen to God’s voice and obey. So I prayed for 3 hours every morning while I was pastoring Seoul Baptist Church to hear God’s voice.
People hear God’s voice differently because God speaks to us differently in accordance with our temperaments and spiritual maturity. I find that God speaks to me mostly through intuition or thought. Most of my morning prayer time was spent in intercessory prayer. While praying, a thought or an idea would pop in my head and be persistent. Some of the ideas seemed preposterous and risky at first, but with time they seemed increasingly reasonable and plausible. Then I would pray, usually for a specific period such as 3 days, a week or a month. “Is this your voice? If not, speak to me again.”
Unless God said something contrary to the initial thought, I carried out the idea wholeheartedly. I didn’t question or reassess the situation because I believe God will either correct me if I am wrong, or He will see that I’m willing to obey whatever He commands me to do and make the idea work out.
The House Church movement that started in Houston spread all over the world to Korea and to five continents. Some people call the House Church movement the Second Reformation, but these things wouldn’t have happened if I had prioritized my leadership and shouted, “Follow me!” I believe this movement is the result of trying to listen to God’s voice and obey.
My wish is that every Christian minister learns to listen to God’s voice. When they do, they can experience God’s power that makes things they wouldn’t even dare to dream become a reality.

지금까지 제 목회 방침은 딱 하나였습니다. “하나님의 음성에 귀 기울이고, 절대 순종한다.” 그래서 하나님의 음성을 듣기 위하여 담임 목회할 때 새벽 5시부터 8시까지 3시간 기도했습니다.
하나님의 음성을 듣는 방법은 사람마다 다릅니다. 하나님께서는 개개인의 기질과 영적인 성숙도에 맞추시기 때문입니다. 제 경우에는, 하나님의 음성이 직관이나 생각으로 옵니다. 제 새벽 기도는 거의 다 중보 기도인데, 기도 가운데 뜬금 없는 생각이 떠오릅니다. 그런데 이 생각이 사라지지 않습니다. 처음에는 실현성이 없는 엉뚱한 생각 같은데, 시간이 지나면서 점점 괜찮은 아이디어라고 생각되어집니다.
그러면 기도를 시작합니다. 중요성에 따라 사흘, 1주일, 한 달, 기간을 정하고 기도합니다. “하나님의 음성입니까? 아니라면 말씀해 주십시오. 어떻게 말씀하시든 따르겠습니다.” 그리고 후속 말씀이 없으면 하나님의 뜻으로 알고 시행합니다.
일단 하나님의 뜻이라고 결론 내리면, 그후에는 돌아보지 않습니다. 어떻게 인도하시던 순종할 마음으로 하나님 뜻을 찾았으니까, 음성을 잘못 들었다면 바로잡아 주실 것이고, 아니면, 합력하려 선을 이루시지 않겠나 싶어서입니다(롬 8:28).
가정교회가 미주 한인교회에서 시작하여 한국을 거쳐 세계 각처에 전파되고 있습니다. 가정교회 운동을 제2의 종교 개혁이라고 부르는 사람들도 있습니다. 그러나 제가 “성경적인 교회를 세우자!” “신약교회를 회복하자.”라고 외치며 ‘운동’을 일으키려 했다면 이런 결과는 있을 수 없었을 것입니다. 오직 하나님의 음성에 귀기울이고, 들려진 음성에 순종했던 결과입니다.
모든 목회자들이 하나님의 음성을 듣는 법을 개발하여, 꿈도 꿀 수 없었던 일을 자신을 통해 이루시는 하나님의 능력을 체험하면 좋겠습니다.
