목사 같은 평신도, 평신도 같은 목사 (Pastor-like Lay, Lay-like Pastor)-영어/한어
I received Christ as my Lord when I was 30 years old. Some people who saw me zealously witness and minister advised that I should enroll at seminary to become a pastor. I didn’t follow such suggestions because I felt I would be more effective in encouraging people’s faith as a lay person. I had this desire to demonstrate that a lay person could live like a pastor.
I took classes at a local theological institution to be a better lay Bible teacher. I mastered Greek well enough to read the Greek version of the New Testament albeit with a lot of help from a Greek-English dictionary.
I led a weekly Bible class for young adults that sometimes had 50 in attendance.
God eventually called to me to pastoral ministry when I was 41, so I quit my research job and enrolled in full-time seminary. Three years later I was ordained as pastor.
After my ordination, I decided to live like an ordinary layperson so it would be easier for members to observe me and learn how to live a Christian life. I tried to think like them, speak like them, and dress like them. I believe this decision helped many church members live and minister like professional pastors.
I believe church revival can be experienced if pastors live just like lay people and lay people to live like pastors.

저는 30세에 예수님을 영접했습니다. 열심히 사역도 하고, 교회 생활을 하니까, 신학하고 목사 되라는 권유가 있었습니다. 그러나 저는 목사가 되는 대신 평신도로서 머물면서 목사처럼 살기로 결심했습니다. 내가 목사가 되면 성도들이 보고 배우기 어려울 것일라고 생각했기 때문입니다.
목사가 하듯이 젊은이들을 모아 성경공부를 인도했고, 바르게 가르치기 위하여 신학교에 등록하여 도움이 되는 과목을 수강했고, 요한복음 정도는 원전으로 읽을 정도로 헬라어도 마스터 했습니다. 직장 생활을 하면서 열심히 신앙생활 하는 모습이 보기 좋았는지 많은 젊은이들이 예수님을 주님으로 영접했습니다.
그러던 중 하나님께서 평신도 사역은 그만 하고, 평신도 사역자를 키우는 사역을 하라고 하시는 것 같아서, 연구 생활을 접고 42세에 신학교에 입학하여 목사가 되었습니다.
목사가 된 이후에는 평신도처럼 살기로 결심했습니다. 그래야 평신도들이 보고 배울 수 있을 것이라고 생각했기 때문입니다. 평신도처럼 생각하고, 평신도처럼 말하고, 평신도처럼 살려고 노력했습니다. 이렇게 한 결과 많은 평신도들이 목사 같은 삶을 살게 되었습니다.
목사가 평신도처럼 살기를 결심하고, 평신도가 목사처럼 살기로 노력한다면, 건강한 교회, 부흥하는 교회는 저절로 되지 않겠나는 생각을 한 적이 있었습니다. 그러나 이런 일이 실제적으로 일어날 것이라고는 꿈도 꾸지 못했습니다. 그런데 가정교회를 하면서, 목사처럼 사는 평신도와, 평신도처럼 사는 목사들이 만들어지고 있어서, 놀라울뿐입니다.
