예수님은 고양이가 아니다 (A Lion, Not A Cat)- 영어/한글
Many Christians suffer from worry and fear because they have a dim view of Jesus. They think of Jesus like a domestic cat.
The Horse and His Boy is the third book in CS Lewis Chronicles of Narnia. In the story, there is a girl named Aravis living in a country next to Narnia. Her father pledged for her to be married to an old official without her consent, so she decided to run away to Narnia, a land she had always admired. She set out with two Narnian horses (Narnian horses can speak) and a young Narnian slave, Shasta, without telling her parents. While passing through the city, Aravis ran into her friend, the princess. The princess insisted she come with her to the palace, so the girl promised to meet Shasta at the cemetery outside the city the next day. When night fell, Shasta was overwhelmed by the dread of ghosts while waiting among the graves. At that moment, a cat came out from nowhere, rubbed its body against the boy and comforted him, allowing him to fall asleep.
While staying overnight in the palace, Aravis learned that the evil prince was planning a surprise attack on Narnia. When Aravis met Shasta in the morning, she told him about the plot, and they rode their horses at top speed to inform the Narnian king. Along the way, the horses became exhausted and started to slow down. A fierce lion suddenly appeared and chased them, so the horses ran for their lives and were able to tell the news to the Narnian king before the evil prince s army arrived. As a result, Narnia was well-prepared, won the battle, and even captured the prince.
Later, Aslan the Lion appeared (Aslan is the lion that appears throughout the Chronicles of Narnia series, symbolizing Jesus). He revealed that he had been the fierce lion that chased them to make the horses run with all their might. He told them that he was also the small cat who had comforted the boy at the graveyard.
Jesus is big. He is the creator of the entire universe. All things were made through Him and are sustained in Him. This infinite God emptied himself and came to the world in a humble human body. And He invites us to be His friends.
As we enjoy intimacy with Him, we sometimes forget how great Jesus is. We start to think of Him as a cat instead of a lion. If we don’t understand the full scope of who He is, we can t be free of worry or fear because we can t truly trust Jesus.
We must pursue intimacy with Jesus but should always remember that He is also an awe-some God.

하나님과 친밀함을 누리다 보면, 하나님의 크심을 망각하기 쉽습니다. 어떤 목사가 “하나님, 꼼짝 마. 까불면 나한테 죽어”라고 말하는 동영상을 보았는데, 하나님을 몰라도 너무 모른다는 생각을 했습니다.
CS Lewis의 나니아 연대기 시리즈 중의 한 권인 ‘The Horse and His Boy (말과 소년)’에 이런 에피소드가 나옵니다.
나니아라는 나라 인접 국가에 한 소녀가 살고 있었습니다. 아버지가 늙은 고관에게 자기를 정혼시킨 것을 알고, 평소에 동경하던 나니아로 도망치기로 결심합니다. 자기가 소유한 말이 나니아 말인 것을 발견한 소녀는 (나니아 짐승은 말을 합니다.) 자기 나이 또래 남종과 더불어 도주의 길을 떠납니다. (본인은 모르지만 이 소년은 아기 때 기구한 운명으로 종의 신세가 된 나니아 왕자입니다.). 이 나라 수도를 통과할 때 이 소녀는 안면이 있는 공주를 우연히 만나 소년과 떨어지게 됩니다. 이 소녀는 밤이 지나 성문이 열린 후, 그 앞에 있는 묘지에서 만나자고 소년에게 말하고 공주와 함께 궁중으로 갑니다.
묘지에 도착한 소년은 어둠 속에서 귀신에 대한 두려움에 휩싸입니다. 이때 난데없이 고양이 한 마리가 나타나 몸을 비벼대며 품에 안기자 따뜻한 온기에 두려움이 사라지고 편안하게 잠들게 됩니다.
궁전에서 이 소녀는 못된 이 나라 왕자가 나니아를 기습 공격하려는 계획을 알게 됩니다. 다음날 이 소녀와 소년은, 나니아 왕에게 이 사실을 알리기 위하여, 전력 질주 말을 달립니다. 그러나 말이 지쳐서 속도가 점점 느려지기 시작합니다. 이때, 갑자기 사자가 나타납니다. 혼비백산한 말은 죽기 살기로 달려서 못된 왕자의 군대가 도착하기 전에, 나니아 왕에게 소식을 전할 수 있었고, 나니아 군대는 충분한 대비를 해서 적을 격퇴시키고 왕자를 사로잡습니다.
나중에 사자 아슬란이 소년과 소녀에게 나타나 (나니아 연대기에 등장하는 사자 아슬란은 예수님의 상징입니다.) 사건의 경위를 설명해 줍니다. 갑자기 나타나서 말이 죽을 힘을 다해 달리도록 했던 사자가 자신이었다고 말합니다. 그리고 무덤에서 공포에 사로잡아 있었던 소년을 위로해주었던 고양이도 자신이었다고 말합니다.
예수님은 창조주 하나님이십니다. 만물이 그를 통하여 지음을 받았고, 만물이 그 안에서 유지되고 있습니다. 이러한 분이 자신을 비우고 인간의 낮은 몸으로 세상에 오셨습니다. 우리 주인이 되어 주셨고, 친구가 되어 주셨습니다.
그런데 예수님과 친밀함을 누리다 보면, 예수님의 크심을 잊어버릴 수 있습니다. 위로해주고 마음을 평안하게 해주는 고양이 정도밖에 생각을 못하게 됩니다. 포효하는, 위엄있는 사자인데 말입니다!
우리는 예수님과 친밀한 관계를 즐기되, 그의 크심을 잊지 말아야 합니다. 친밀함과 경외심이 조화를 이룰 때에 건강한 신앙 생활이 가능합니다.
