---------------
Korean churches are on a downward spiral. The number of Christians is dwindling, and young people are leaving the church. I think the main reason is because churches have become permeated with secular values, abandoning Christian ones. Many efforts to stop the decline doesn¡¯t seem to be working. It feels as though Korea has come to the point where we must build churches reflective of the ¡°ten righteous people¡± in the Sodom and Gomorrah story.
In chapter 18 of Genesis, the angel of the Lord visited Abraham and announced that He will destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham pleaded for the inhabitants, haggled on their behalf, and was given the promise that God would not destroy the town if just ten righteous people could be found there. But it was destroyed, along with all the people living there. Evidently there were not even ten righteous people. These cities could have avoided God¡¯s wrath if there had been only ten righteous people.
I think God¡¯s wrath is evident through the demise of Korean churches. They have forgotten their mission - restore broken lives, families, societies and nature. We can escape His wrath by building churches, the ¡°ten righteous people of Sodom and Gomorrah,¡± where church leaders obey the Word, and church members live according to the Bible. The House Churches are striving to become such churches.
