The 37th General Assembly held at the Seo Moon Church in
Taegu on April 29, 1952, cleared the Liberal theologians off.
Against this decision the pastors of the Liberalism centering
the Cho Sun Theological Seminary held a constitution
protection conference at the Nan San Church in Taegu on
September 17, 1952 and therein pointed put the unjustness of
the decision of General Assembly.
At last as soon as possible they knew that it was impossible to
turn the general trend of the Assembly, resumed the 38th
conference in the name of Hapdong General Assembly in the
auditorium of the Korea Theological Seminary(Cho Sun
Theological Seminary) and then established the Presbyterian
Church in the Republic of Korea. The second schism was the
result of the severe confrontation had been finished with
dismissing professor Kim, Jae Joon from his office in 37th
General Assembly session and declared the triumph of Dr.
Park, Hyong Yong.
This schism was the most unhonorable and bitter experience
in the history of Korean Church. Most church historians have
said that the responsibility of the division lay with professor
Kim, Jae Joon. Professor Kim, Yang Sun asserted that if
professor Kim, Jae Joon had not bitter criticized the
conservative theology, the schism of Presbyterian church as
today would not taken place. Furthermore, Dr. John E. Kim
reproached professor Kim, Jae Joon, and warned that Korean
church would have to put her heart into the restoration of her
conscience in the future. If so, with whom the responsibility
lies?

1952년 4월 29일 대구 서문교회에서 제37회 총회가 모여 자유
주의 신학자에 대한 숙청을 단행하였고 이에 대하여 조선신학
교 중심으로 자유주의 계열의 교역자들이 동년 9월 17일 대구
남산교회에서 호헌대회를 열어 총회결의의 불법성을 지적했다.
결국, 총회 내에서의 대세 만회가 불가능함을 알자 1953년 6월
10일 서울 조선신학교(현 한국신학대학) 강당에 모여 “법통총
회”라는 이름 하에 제38회 총회를 속개한 다음 “대한 기독교장
로회”를 창설한 것이다. 그런데 이 제2차 분열은 한국교회 분열
역사상 가장 큰 신학 싸움의 결과인 것이다. 결국, 김재준 교수
와의 미드필드에서 혼전을 계속하던 자유주의와 보수주의와의
결승전은 제37회 총회에서의 김재준 교수의 면직 처분에로 골
인하여 박형룡 박사의 보수주의 승리를 선언함으로 일단락 짓
게 되었다.
이 분열은 한국교회사상 가장 명예롭지 못하고 가장 쓰라린 상
처를 안고 있는 분열인데, 교회사 학자들은 이구동성으로 이 분
열의 책임을 김재준 교수에게 돌리고 있는 것이다. 김양선 교수
는 “만일, 김재준 교수가 계속해서 보수주의 신학을 강렬하게
비난하지 않았다면 금일과 같은 장로교의 분열은 일어나지 않
았을 것이라”라고 단언했으며, 한 걸음 더 나가서 김의환 교수
는 김재준 교수를 비난함과 동시에 한국교회가 정신 차리고 앞
으로는 신앙 양심을 회복해야 한다고 경고하였다. 그렇다면, 그
분열의 책임이 누구에게 있느냐? ⛪⛪⛪
