II. Theological Background of Church Division (9)
(1) The Three Schisms of Church (1)
There were three times in Korean Church division from 1930’s to
1950’s. This was a big event of the Korean Church history. The
first of many schisms from the Presbyterian Church of Korea
took place in 1938, although the situation became much of
more serious after World War II.
A conservative split in appeared in 1946 which resulted in the
establishment of the Koryo Presbyterian Church, followed by a
much larger conservative split 1951 which formed the
Presbyterian Church in Korea (Reunited anti-Ecumenical), and
later in 1954 by a liberal split to organize the Presbyterian
Church in the Republic of Korea. Methodists also had their
problems with schisms: but except a few small groups, they
were reunited by 1959.
① The First Division of the Church
But the first division in Korean Church, in fact, was the schism of
the Koryo Presbyterian Church which took place in the chapel of
the Sung Nam Church in the city of Chon Joo on September 11,
1952. Rev. Han, Sang Dong the leader of this denomination
(Koryo Presbyterian Church) was a so called ‘one of the saints
freed from a prison!’ He came down to the city of Bu San, and
has established the Koryo Theological Seminary with Rev. Park,
Yun Sun.
But when Dr. Park, Hyong Yong took office as the president of
the Koryo Theological Seminary on October 14, 1947, they had
suffered from the confrontation with the Liberal theology of the
Cho Sun Seminary in Seoul, the leader of which was professor
Kim, Jae Joon, because they had a difference to the problem of
the confrontation between them. Consequently, Dr. Park, Hyung
Yong left the Korea Theological Seminary on April, 1948 and
came up to Seoul. After that he have established the
Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

(1) 3차에 걸친 교회분열 (1)
한국교회 분열은 1930년대에서 1950년대에 일어났다. 이것은 한
국교회 역사상 큰 사건이었다. 한국 장로교회로부터의 많은 분리
중에 첫 번째 분리는 1938년에 일어났다. 물론 그 때의 상황은 세
계 제2차 대전 후에 보다 심각한 상태였지만 말이다.
고려 장로교의 설립의 결과를 가져온 1946년에 일어난 보수주의
분리는 한국의 장로교회(에큐메니칼을 반대한)를 형성했던 1951
년에 대다수의 보수주의의 분리 따랐던 것이었고, 이후 1954년
한국 장로교회를 조직하기 위한 자유주의에 의한 분리였다. 감리
교회 역시 분열로 인한 그들의 문제들을 가지고 있었으나 매우
작은 그룹들을 제외하고는, 1951년에 다시 연합하였다.
① 제1차 교회분열
한국 장로교 안에 첫 번째 분리는 1952년 9월 11일 전주 성남교
회 예배당에서의 고려파의 분립이었다. 이 교단의 지도자인 한상
동 목사는 “출옥성도”로써 부산에 내려와서 주남선 목사와 손잡
고 1946년 9월 20일 박윤선 목사를 교장으로 고려신학교를 설립
하였다.
그러나 1947년 10월 14일 박형룡 박사가 고려신학교의 교장으로
취임했을 때에 서울에서는 이미 건재해 있던 김재준 교수가 몸담
고 있는 조선신학교의 자유주의 신학에 대결하기 위해 포진하는
데 전략적 의견의 차이로 부산 고려신학교에서는 내부적인 진통
을 겪게 되었다. 결국 박형룡 박사는 1948년 4월 고려신학교를 떠
나 서울로 올라와 그 후 장로회신학교를 시작했다. ✝️✝️✝️
