(2) A Red Signal of the Church Division (4)
With the background of the confrontation of thought, the
General Assembly of Presbyterian Church in 1924 and 1935
had been faced with crisis of the theological division. At that
time, the theological confrontation had been aggravated so
serious that at least several commentators, missionaries
suggested the impendency of the church division.
As stated above, the local schism as the South faction and the
North faction has entered on the theological confrontation so
called the Conservative and Liberalism of theology. And then,
as soon as the Liberalism revealed its true colors the 23th
General Assembly held in 1934 turn into theological debate.
So the alarm bell of the Korean Church division and had been
ringing. From this time the theological debate had spread over
the whole church, and so had a bad effect on Korean Church
to be divided.
The problems in the church at that time were the authorship
of Genesis, women’s rights, the Abingdon Bible Commentary,
the Christian Times and so on. Particularly the problem of the
Abingdon Bible Commentary had been formally presented by
the Conservatives in 24th Presbyterian General Assembly of
Chosn held at the Pyong Yang Seo Moon Bak Church on
September 1935.

이러한 사상적 대결을 배경으로 1934년과 1935년의 장로교 총회
는 심각한 신학적 분열의 위기에 직면하고 있었다. 1934년과
1935년도의 한국장로회 총회 때에 적어도 한 명이상이 되는 선교
사들이 교회 분열이 임박하였다고 암시하리만치 신학적 대립은
교회분열에 치명타를 가하고 있었다는 사실이 명백히 들어났다.
전술한 바와 같이 남쪽파와 북쪽파의 지방적 분파주의는 현대주
의와 보수주의라는 묘한 신학 사상적 대립으로 더욱 복잡한 양상
을 띠게 되었다. 이러한 현대주의(자유주의)의 정체가 서서히 들
어나면서 1934년 제23회 총회는 자유와 보수 간의 신학적 싸움이
열전으로 변하여 노골화됨으로 한국교회의 분열의 경종을 울리
게 되었다. 이 때부터 신학적 싸움에 전 교회적으로 파급되어 교
회분열의 필연적 운명의 길로 줄 다름 질 치게 된 것이다.
이 시기에 대두된 문제의 사건들은 창세기 저작권 문제, 교회 안
의 여권문제, 아빙돈 성경주석 문제, 기독신보 문제들이었다. 특
히 아빙돈 성경주석의 문제는 1935년 9월에 평양 서문밖교회에
서 열린 제24회 조선장로회 총회에서 보수주의자들에 의하여 공
식적으로 제기되었다. ⛪️⛪️⛪️
