II. Theological Background of Church Division (03)
(1) The Signs of Church Division (3)
It would be concluded that Korean Church division began to show a sign as soon as the theological thought of Liberalism emerged.
1) Situation in a Transition Period ③
But after Canadian Church to which the Canadian Mission has belonged and the Methodist Church which has liberalistic unified to one the liberalism had an important effect upon the Korean Church, and therefore the Revival Meeting for Pastors in Ham Heung which was held by the Liberalists in 1926 had given lead to a great confusion for a time. Because of the occurrence, missionaries L. L. Young and A. F. Robb left the Canadian Mission.
Moreover, W. Scott, the missionary who had been working at Kando became the president of the Mission, and then has been rapidly liberalized. By means of some Korean pastors from studying in the United States of America, Kim, Kwan Sik and Cho, Hee Yum the liberal theology had been giving an impetus to spread over the Korean Church. In so doing the Korean Church had been accelerating the schism.
Particularly, pastor Chang, Do Won took down a speaker out of the pulpit because he denounced the Orthodox Theology while so called Indoctrination Meeting had been going on. Furthermore, Lee Won Kyun and Han, Ki Choon compelled the speaker to apologize for his speaking, and counterattacked Rev. Cho, Hee Yum because he taught “ it is a big mistake for one to believe whole Bible as the Word of God,” Therefore the Meeting had been turned to a scene of utter confusion for a time.
Therefore, The cause of such a confusion was the theological debate in itself according to their disagreement about theological thought. The theological debate had developed into the result of Church division. From this point we must reflect on ourselves. Because the moral responsibility of Christianity for the division of Church did not rested upon the laymen but on the Christian leaders.

II. 교회분열의 신학적 배경 (03)
(1) 한국교회의 분열은 자유주의 신학사상의 대두로 그 기미가 보이기 시작했다고 보아야 할 것이다.
1) 과도기적 상황 ③
그러나 가나다 선교회의 본국교회가 자유주의적인 감리교회와 통합하여 연한교회로 바뀌자 이 영향은 한국교회에까지 미쳐 이들이 주재하는 1926년의 함흥교역자 수양회는 일대 혼란을 빚었으며 영재형 (Young) 선교사와 롭아력 (Robb) 선교사는 가나다 선교회를 떠나버리고 말았다.
더욱 간도에서 선교하던 서고도 (Scott) 선교사가 회장이 되면서 급진적으로 자유주의 화 되어갔으며 미국에서 자유주의 신학을 수학하고 귀국관 김관식, 조희염 등 한국 목사들의 합세로 한국에 자유주의 신학 보급에 박차를 가하므로 교회분열에 촉진제의 역할을 신나게 하고 있었다.
특히 한국교회 교역자들을 자유주의 신학사상으로 전향시키기 위한 세뇌교육집회가 계속되는 중 정통주의 신학을 공격하는 강사를 장도원 목사가 강단에서 끌어 내렸고 이원균, 한기춘 등을 강사에게 사과를 요구하는 사태까지 벌어졌으며, “성경전체를 하나님의 말씀으로 믿는 것은 튼 잘못이다”라고 가르친 조희염 목사를 박격하는 등 수양회는 일대 수라장을 이루고 말았다.
그러므로 이러한 수양회의 혼란은 근본적으로 신학사상의 상위 점에 점화된 불씨가 원인이며, 이 신학사상의 싸움은 결국 교회분열이라는 비참한 행동싸움에로 발전되기 마련이다. 여기서 우리는 옷깃을 여미고 조용히 자성해야 할 중대한 문제점을 발견할 줄 안다. 그것은 다름이 아니라 교회분열의 기독교 윤리적 책임이 전혀 평신도에게 있는 것이 아니라 지도자들에게 있다는 사실이다. ✝️✝️✝️
