II. Theological Background of Church Division
(3) The Church Unification Movement
Korean Christians have equally desired the Korean Churches to
be unified together. If so, whose responsibility would be the
division of Korean Church? It may be said; firstly, a defect in the
personality of the church leaders as the minister. But the more
fundamental problem than this is theological discrepancy.
There are very different points in theology between Liberalists
and Conservatives.
The conservative view of theology has close relation to faith. In
other words, there are a definite distinction between theology
and faith, but these interact each other with an inseparable
co˗relationship.
On the contrary, the Liberalistic view of theology shows the
divorce between theology and faith. cannot be entirely
possible. And it is said that the view of unification between
them is nothing but the spiritual remain of the Feudalistic and
Confucianistic bias.
In other words, they presuppose that the Evangelical truth and
the cultural understanding cannot be the same thing, and
church division must be caused by not so much the difference
of Evangelical truth as that of cultural understanding, it is
possible to unite the churches, if there can be overcome the
difference of cultural background and the difference of
theological truth.

한국교회가 합동(통합)되기를 바라는 것은 한국 교인으로서 누
구에게나 동일한 염원이라 하겠다. 그렇다면, 한국교회 분열의
책임은 누구에게 있는가? 그것은 아마도 첫째로, 교회 지도자들
의 교회를 지도하는 데 관한 성직자로서의 인격적 결함을 들 수
있을 것이다. 그러나 이보다도 더 근본적인 문제는 신학적인 결
함을 들 수 있을 것이다. 자유주의자들과 보수주의자들 사이에는
엄청난 차이점들이 존재한다.
신학에 대한 보수주의 견해는 신앙(faith)과 밀접한 관계가 있다.
다시 말하자면, 신학과 신앙은 확실히 구별되어야 하나, 이것들
은 상호 분리될 수 없는 관계로 상관작용을 하는 것이다.
이와 반대로, 신학에 대한 자유주의적 견해는 신학과 신앙은 업
연히 분리되어야 한다는 것이다. 다시 말하자면, 신학과 신앙의
사이에 통일이란 전적으로 불가능하다는 것이다. 그리고 신학과
신앙이 하나 되기를 바라는 것은 봉건주의적이요, 유교적 사상의
협소한 편견의 유물이라고 한다.
다시 말하면, 복음적 근본진리와 문화적인 이해는 같을 수 없으
며, 교회분열은 복음의 근본진리의 차이에서라기보다는 문화적
차이에 있다고 전제하고, 이 문화적 배경의 차이와 신학의 차이
를 극복할 수 있어야 합동(통합)이 가능하다는 것이다. ⛪⛪⛪
