[A hard saying to understand] (9) (The structural elements of man: trichotomy? or dichotomy?)
There are two views that man consists of three parts, that is, \"spirit,\" \"soul,\" and \"flesh,\" and of two parts, \"spirit\" and \"flesh.\" The former is called trichotomy, the latter dichotomy. Today many people follow the trichotomy to the human body, but Reformed theology believes the dichotomy. And then which view is really right in the light of Scripture? This must be approached not functionally but ontologically, because man does not exist as a functional act but as a form of being. The Bible has said the ontological principle of man.
(1) In creation, man was created with not three parts but two parts, that is, \"flesh\"(earth) and \"spirit\"(breath of life), (2) In death, man will be divided into two parts, that is, \"spirit\"(soul) and \"flesh\"(body), (3) In resurrection, man will be raised up to the form united with \"spirit\"(soul) and \"flesh\"(body). Some scholar offered an excuse for what man's spirit raises upward and his flesh downward at the time of death but his soul stops to exist. But In creation, death, and resurrection, the trichotomy which was consisted of three parts, that is, \"spirit,\" \"soul,\" and \"flesh\" could not be nowhere to be found in the Scriptures. Probably they might only confuse function with being. Man was made of two parts, that is, \"spirit\"(soul) and \"flesh\"(body) according to the theory of relativity applied to the whole creature. [이해하기 어려운 말씀] (9) (인간의 구성요소: 삼분설? 혹은 이분설?)
인간의 구성요소가 \"영\"과 \"혼\"과 \"육\"의 세부분으로 구성되어 있다는 견해와 \"영\"과 \"육\"의 두 부분으로 되어 있다는 견해가 있다. 전자를 삼분설, 후자를 이분설이라고 한다. 오늘날 수많은 사람들이 인간의 몸에 대한 삼분설을 따르고 있으나 개혁주의 신학에서는 이분설을 믿는다. 그러면 과연 성경적으로 어떤 견해가 맞는가? 이 문제는 기능적이 아니라 존재론적으로 접근해야 한다. 왜냐하면, 인간 자체가 기능 활동으로가 아니라 존재 양식으로 존재하기 때문이다. 성경에도 존재의 원리로 되어 있다.
(1) 창조할 때에 인간은 세부분이 아닌 두 부분 즉 \"육\"(흙)과 \"영\"(생기)으로 창조되었으며, (2) 죽을 때에도 \"영\"(혼)과 \"육\"(신)으로 분리되며, (3) 부활할 때에도 \"영\"(혼)과 \"육\"(신)이 결합하여 부활하게 된다. 어떤 학자는 인간이 죽을 때에 \"영\"은 하늘로 올라가고 \"육\"은 땅으로 내려가나, \"혼\"은 존재하기를 중지한다고 변명한다. 그러나 성경 어디에도 인간의 창조와, 죽음과 부활에서 인간이 세부분으로 구성되었다는 곳은 발견되지 않는다. 다만 인간의 존재와 기능의 관계를 혼동하고 있기 때문에 삼분설로 오해하는 것 같다. 인간은 피조계의 상대성 원리에 의해서 \"영\"(혼)과 \"육\"(신)의 두 부분으로 창조되었다는 것이 지극히 성경적인 원리이며, 개혁주의 신학의 정설이다.
