6) having a goal meant that the significance of time increased, or matured, with the passing of chronological time. Time was pregnant with eternity. God was going to keep his promise.


(2) Chronos and Kairos

1. Etymological approach to the Greek from New Testament

1) the chronological, everyday events, what we undisparagingly call clock time, and

2) the special occurrences, or seasons, in the life of a person or of the nation.

2. differences between the two terms

1) Chronos : (1) referred to the linear expanse, a period or space of time.
(2) was used for \\\\\"formal and scientific conception of time

2) Kairos : (1) indicated more the idea of right time, or
(2) opportunity such as \\\\\"the time for figs\\\\\" (Mk. 11:13)

3. Early studies on the biblical view of time:

tried to make a clear distinction between these words based on their etymology.

1) Chronos (the formal passing of time) was not really important, but

2) Kairos (right time, opportunity) is significant to their lives.

But James Barr :

(1) Kairos is a polysemy, a word with more than one meaning.
(2) Kairos means the decisive or right time
(3) Kairos refers to time in general, a synonym for chronos.
