5. THE KINGDOM OF OPPORTUNITY

Time never takes time off (Augustine of Hippo)
(1) Origin of \\\\\\"Kairos\\\\\\"
1) The minor Greek god (statue of a young man with wings on his feet and a tuft of hair on his forehead.
2) Kairos means \\\\\\"time,\\\\\\" or \\\\\\"opportunity,\\\\\\"
(1) the wings (passing time): opportunity passes swiftly (opportune or fitting moment is fleeting)
(2) the forelock (moment): the need for decision, for seizing the occasion. before the moment passes, we must grasp it by hear.
* Fedro: \\\\\\"opportunity may have hair in front, but he is bald in back\\\\\\" derived from the name of Creek minor god.
(3) God is:
1) not static
2) nor limited by his creation
3) no adequate a partial representation of him
4) reals himself in history
5) has acted and continues to be active
6) represented himself as a verb rather than a noun, as a verb of being (relation) rather than of doing (sequence), as his name: \\\\\\"I am who I am\\\\\\" or \\\\\\"I will be what I will be\\\\\\" as man commentators suggests (Ex. 3:14)
7) did not designate a holy place, but holy time--the seventh day (Gen.2:2-3)
