TIME MANAGEMENT (22) (Overview: Taking Plessure off Redemption) (00)
ÀåºÎ¿µ  2009-08-28 12:29:27, Á¶È¸ : 2,033

(1) How to be \\\\\\\\"Instant\\\\\\\\"

(1) King James Version reads, \\\\\\\\"Be instant in season, out of season.\\\\\\\\" In this verse the word for \\\\\\\\"season\\\\\\\\" is the word kairos.

(2) The sense of this word, Kairos is \\\\\\\\"whether the moment is opportune or not.\\\\\\\\" A popular interpretation of this verse is that the Christian is to witness to unbelievers whether or not the situation is appropriate.

(3) The contest indicates that Paul was indeed urging Timothy not to be timid. He was to preach the gospel message boldly, to \\\\\\\\"press it home\\\\\\\\" (NEB).

(4) The idea of epistethi (be prepared,\\\\\\\\" NIV) is that of standing by, being ready, or be prepared or attentive because opportunity will be present just when you don't expect it.

(5) Paul considers the importance of preaching, he includes the unfitting moment (out of season) as well. That is, convenient or inconvenient for Timothy! Opportunity will come \\\\\\\\"ready or not.\\\\\\\\"

(6) We must be prepared so that he can bring the word at the right time whether or not he finds it convenient.

(7) Such an understanding of this verse does not reduce the urgency of the message nor the need to boldly seize opportunities that arise.

(8) All it does is to keep us from sanctifying rudeness and high pressure tactics. People may still be offended by the gospel, but they should not identify the message with the abrupt and artificial presentation of a pressured and pressing evangelist who has no sense of what is appropriate.

(9) In fact, our best opportunities to witness to God's grace come from when I am tired or busy. The moment may be timely from God's point of view, but it is inconvenient or embarrassing for us.

(10) With the pressure off, he or she may feel no more compulsion to witness at all. But that is not Paul's intention. Although the text (2 Timothy 4:5) does not support an artificial \\\\\\\\"instant reply\\\\\\\\" evangelism, it certainly does motivate us to an authentic witness which can happen at any time.
