1. God's ruling days:
the idea of his universal kingship permeates the Old Testament (Josh. 2:11; Ps. 103:19; 145:11-13; Is.37:16; Dan. 6:26)
2. idea of \\\\"that day\\\\":
Hebrews longed for \\\\"that day\\\\" when his glory would be revealed to all men (Is. 24:21-23) and his lordship would be universally recognized (Zech 14:9)
3. the day of God's visitation:
was a dark and foreboding aspect. it would be a time when he would exercise judgement (Is. 10:3; 13:9; Ezeck. 7:19)
4. the day of the Lord Jesus:
a new element hope (Jn. 5:27; 6:39-40, 44-54; 11:24; Matt. 16:27-28) it is the joyful, victorious \\\\"day of the Lord Jesus\\\\"(2 Cor. 1:14; Phil. 1:4-6)
5. important is it not to separate God's kairos from the presence of the kingdom. Greek connects the two phrases (Mark 1:15) : The time is full, and the kingdom of God is at hand (RSV). This means:
1) that the kingdom of God is not some spiritual, that is, a temporal, realm far from human concerns.
2) that the kingdom is not here on earth just anywhere or anytime.
6. the kingdom has been coming up:
1) the signs that the kingdom had come (Matt. 11:4-5; 12:28; Mark 1:27)
(1) Jesus' authoritative teaching
(2) his power over the forces of Satan
(3) his other miracles
2) the kingdom of God is in your midst (Lk. 17:21 NASB)
3) the blessing of the kingdom:
(1) salvation
