b. Other figures promote brevity of expression. (p. 89)

They result from the rapidity and energy of the author's thought, which fosters a desire, to omit all superfluous words.
(1) The Ellipsis (생략법, 省略法) (p. 89)
(1) It consists in the omission of a word or words, necessary to the complete construction of a sentence, but not required for the understanding of it.
(약어법은 문장의 완전한 구조에 필요한 말이나 말들의 생략으로 이루어진 것이지만, 그것을 이해하도록 요구하지는 않는다)
Moses prays, \"Return, O Jehovah How long?\" (돌아오소서, 여호와여 어느 때까지니이까?“) (wilt thou desert us?, 우리를 버리시겠나이까?)
The short, abrupt sentences reveal the poet's emotion. (이 간결하고 갑작스러운 문장들은 시인의 감정을 나타내준다)

(2) The Brachylogy (약어법, 略語法) (p. 90)
(1) Brachylogy, also a concise or abridged form of speech, consisting especially in the non-repetition or omission of a word, when its repetition or use would be necessary to complete the grammatical construction.
(약어법 역시 간결하고 생략된 말의 형태로, 말의 반복이나 사용이 문법 구조를 완전케 할 필요성이 있을 때, 특별히 반복하지 않거나 단어를 생략함으로 되어지는 것을 말한다)
(2) In this figure, the omission is not as noticeable as in the ellipsis. (이런 표현에서 생략은 생략법에서와 같이 중요한 것은 아니다)
Thus Paul says in Rom. 11:18: \"Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root (bears) thee.\" (그 가지들을 향하여 자긍하지 말라 자긍할찌라도 네가 뿌리를 보전하는 것이 아니요 뿌리가 너를 보전하는 것이니라)
Notice also I John 5 :9: \"If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater.\" (만일 우리가 사람들의 증거를 받을찐대 하나님의 증거는 더욱 크도다)
(3) The Constructio Praegnans (은폐구조, 隱閉構造) (p. 90)
(1) The Constructio Praegnans in which a preposition is joined with an expressed verb, while it really belongs to an unexpressed verb which is included in the other as its consequent.
(은폐구조문은 전치사가 나타난 동사와 연결되어 있는 반면에, 그것은 실제로 그것의 후속으로서 그와 다른 편에 포함되어 있는 나타나지 않은 동사에 속해 있는 것이다)
For instance, in Ps. 74:7, we read: \"They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled the dwelling place of thy name (by burning it) to the ground.\"
(그들이 주의 성소를 불사르며 주의 이름이 계신 곳을 더럽혀 땅에 엎었나이다)
(2) The thought must be completed in some such way as, razing or burning it to the ground.
(그 사상은 아마 그것을 땅에 없애버리거나 태워버린다는 방식으로 완성시겨야 할 것이다)
Paul says in II Tim. 4:18: \"he (the Lord) will save me (bringing me) into his kingdom.\"
(바울은 디모데 후서 4:18에서 말하기를 “주께서 나를 그의 천국에 들어가도록 구원하시리니”라고 말했다)
(4) The Zeugma (액식구법, 軛式句法) (p. 90)
(1) The Zeugma consisting of two nouns that are construed with one verb, though only one of them usually the first directly suits the verb.
(액어법은 하나의 동사로 두 개의 명사를 설명하는 것으로, 그들 중에 첫째 명사로서의 단 하나의 명사가 그 동사에 맞추어 설명 되는 것을 말한다)
Thus we read literally in I Cor. 3:2: \"Milk I caused thee to drink, and not (to take) meat.\"
(이런 액어법으로 고전 3:2을 축어적으로 읽으면, “내가 너희를 젖으로 먹이고 밥으로 아니 하였노니”로 된다)
And in Luke 1:64 we are told respecting Zacharias: \"And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue.\"
(그리고 누가복음 1:64에서 사가랴를 존경하는 말로 듣기를 “그 입이 곧 열리고 혀가 풀리며”라고 했다)
(2) In supplying the missing words, the interpreter must exercise great care, lest he change the sense of that which is written.
(해석자는 생략된 말들을 보충함으로써, 기록된 것의 의미를 변질시키지 않도록 각별히 주의하여야 한다)
